Bungus Breaks a Leg

September 25, 2022 - 3 Responses

It me, Bungus. For my first post I am going to explain that orange thing on my leg.

See, there is an armadillo that lives behind our house. We call him Mr Nine, and we say hello most mornings. Well, one morning, my sisters and I ran down to the corner of the yard and poof! Just like that, I broke my only back leg.

My doctor sent us to Texas A&M Orthopaedics, and they did a CT Scan. I feel my mom was unnecessarily enthusiastic about the 3D picture of my bones. I broke my tibia, but in a spot they had never seen before. My mom says I contributed to academic veterinary medicine. Whatever that means.

They built me a custom cast, and I’ve worn it for 6 weeks. My mom made me wear a shoe so it did not get wet, and except for an itchy yeast infection deep in the webs of my toes, my pressure sores have been pretty minimal. Every week, I get a new color of wrapping and my mom gets me a matching harness.

A few days ago, we had an X-ray to check how much the bone is stitching and together. Guess what? Pretty much NO healing at all.

We are going to leave my cast on for 2 more weeks, and my doctor is figuring out what to do if it does not heal.

I mean, it’s a break in a place they’ve never seen before, so we are all learning together.

My mom keeps me from bungusing by giving me trazodone…I am mostly sleeping through this whole thing. Before cast changes I get tramadol, and still take daily Galliprant. We know I will have arthritis in this area, whether it heals or not.

Mom is trying to take good care of me, although that’s debatable. She cut my food back by 50% and so I’m losing weight. So far, I’ve lost 5 pounds. We want me to be lean to make it easier.

Well that’s what is happening in my life right now. Keep on bungusing and let sunshine guide your soul.
